Ring doorbell troubleshooting tips to have it up and working again

The Ring Doorbell serves as an easy way to modernize your home with a snazzy gadget that alerts you when someone is at your door. It also allows you to see guests and talk to them without opening the door. While the Ring doorbell is not overly technical, several issues can arise. These are some Ring Doorbell troubleshooting tips.

1. Why Is My Ring Doorbell Not Working or Offline?

Your Ring Doorbell can not connect to the Ring app and execute functions like using the camera to see who is at the door if it goes offline. if a Ring Doorbell goes offline, it’s due to a Wi-Fi issue. Other common reasons why a Ring Doorbell may go offline include:

  •  A disconnection of power from the router due to power surge
  • There was a disconnection of wire from the router.
  • There was a change in the  Wi-Fi network password.
  • Depletion of the battery
  • There has been a temporary power loss.

2. Why Does My Ring Doorbell Pro Have Power Issues?

The Ring Doorbell Pro is the model that may have the most issues with power. The Pro doesn’t have a rechargeable battery unlike the original Ring Doorbell or Ring Doorbell 2, and it doesn’t receive power from an Ethernet connection, as the Ring Doorbell Elite does.

The Ring Doorbell Pro requires a power source that provides between 16 and 24 volts. Ring Doorbells are typically connected to the wire station of a traditional outdoor press and chime doorbell, which mainly runs on 16V. Your Ring Doorbell Pro may require more power depending on how frequently it’s used and what functions are executed.

To examine if your Ring Doorbell Pro receives enough power, access Device Health in the Ring app and look for the voltage setting. When you select the voltage option and it says at least 3,900mV or says Good, there isn’t a power issue with the Ring Doorbell Pro.

If your Ring Doorbell Pro works for a short time and unexpectedly stops working, there may be a power issue. Other indications it isn’t receiving enough power include:

  • Inability to maintain a Wi-Fi connection.
  •  Shut off randomly.
  • Freezes during live video.
  • Night vision ceased working.
  • The original internal doorbell rings improperly.

3. Steps to Follow If Your Ring Doorbell Isn’t Working

Follow these troubleshooting tips below:

  1. Examine the doorbell status. If the doorbell does not connect automatically, check the Device Health section of the Ring app.  Check the Wi-Fi hardware for any issues, if the Ring Doorbell is listed as offline.
  2. Insert the Ring Doorbell into Setup mode. Select the Setup Wait 10 seconds, before selecting the Setup button again. Confirm if the doorbell reconnects to the network.
  3. Power up the doorbell. Ensure that the Ring Doorbell is properly charged.
  4. Insert the battery again. If you have a Ring Doorbell 2, remove and insert the battery again, then check to see if the doorbell reconnects to the network.
  5. Supply more power to Doorbell Pro. Install a  Pro Power Kit V2or Ring pro power kit to the original doorbell. The former requires you to connect wires from the internal doorbell to the Power Kit, while the V2’s wires are connected to the kit, so you only need to connect the other end to the Front and Transformer stations of the internal doorbell.

If you are not comfortable handling wires, you can contact a licensed electrician to install the Ring Doorbell Pro Power Kit.
