An inverter is a very essential electrical electronic device, which everyone who needs an alternative power supply must own for their homes as well as the offices. This device helps provide electricity to the most important appliances in your home when there is power failure.

But, this device might sometimes have a problem that is may not work properly after installing it at home. When this happens it could lead to no power output, thus causing several issues such as no lights, no microwave power, and several others. Therefore it is best to know the common inverter problems and how the can be solved so that you can resolve the issues yourself. The common inverter problem and their solution are given below:

  1. Inverter not turning on

7 Common inverter problems and their solutions: Inverter not turning on

One of the most common inverter problems is inverter not turning on. What could be the few possible causes for this problem are:

  • Tripped inverter,
  • Battery disconnected,
  • Battery terminals lose,
  • Weak battery,
  • Discharged battery or battery terminals are reversed etc.

However, if you notice the power switch is defective, you must take it to any electronics repair center near you for repair.

If the battery is faulty, it needs to be replaced. But if the inverter is tripped due to overload or any other problem, the trip reset button on the device need to be press to reset it. If the battery you are using has gone weak, it is advisable that you charge it for a few hours.  Else, if it is very old, then it is a nice idea to replace it altogether.

If the terminals of the battery are loose, check them and be sure it is not corrosion, but if it is corrosion, give them a good cleaning before fixing them firmly again. If the battery has been drained completely or the terminal is reverse your inverter will not turn on so check and be sure that the battery is charged and the polarity are connected correctly

  1. Inverter Battery is not getting charged

Common inverter problems and their solutions: Inverter Battery is not getting charged

Another inverter problem is battery not getting charged after being used or after connection. Some of the possible reasons for this could be a dead battery and in this case, the battery needs to be replaced.  Other causes for this could be burnt or faulty rectifiers, melted or broken fuses, and loose battery connection.

In these cases, you may need to contact a  professional electrician near you for help or if you are knowledgeable in electrical and electronics you can open the inverter and check the rectifier, fuses and check the battery terminals for corrosion which could cause the battery connection to be loose.

  1. Shortened backup time

Shortened backup time is another problem, which an inverter can encounter. Too much power consumption could be the cause in this case, in such a case; you need to remove the extra load (used appliances). When the battery is not properly charged, this problem could still crop up.  In addition, the backup time may become shortened if the battery has lost electrolyte. In this case, distilled water needs to be top-up in the battery regularly. Note that the water level must be maintained between the maximum and minimum water limits.

  1. Power inverter working only in inverter mode

If this problem occurs, either the input is not connected properly or the fuse must have melted.  Inspect the power cable and replace the fuse respectively for the above-given reasons for a power inverter functioning just in the inverter mode. However, if the input protector is working fine, then it needs to be reset.

An input protector is a protector circuit that saves the inverter in case of high voltage conditions. Other causes for this common inverter problem may include low input and high input etc.

What happens there is low input to the inverter? The Inverter does not toggle to main power supply mode and hence works only in inverter mode. You may need to make sure that you select a wide range from the UPS if this is the reason for the unit functioning in inverter mode only.  You can also install a stabilizer to fix the issue of voltage.

  1. Alarm beeping continuously

Sometimes, the might be a continuously beeping of the alarm of the inverter. Which could be irritating to the ears.  When this happens, the possible cause could be the inverter is either overload or its cooling fan is stuck. To solve this issue, first try disconnecting the entire extra load in case of overload. If the problem persists. Then you may have to take the inverter to the service center near you or contact a professional for help.

Every inverter has a cooling fan, which needs to function as long as the unit is working. If the cooling fan is not able to run and maintain a temperature cool enough for the safe operation of the inverter, the inverter will automatically shut off or it will make an audible alarm to notify you that the device needs to be turned off.

Similarly, if the fan is stuck due to some certain reasons and is not able to cool off the inverter, the unit will give out an alarm to notify you to turn it off.

  1. Power inverter LCD displays false codes

Another common problem with inverters is LCD displaying false codes.  In this case, it is either there is some internal problem with the inverter circuit will need to be fixed by replacing or repairing the unit. If the issue is external, then you need to check the battery cables, the output and input wires and load in case there is an issue with it.

  1.  Noise coming out from Power inverter

Some noises coming out from your power inverter is another common inverter problem. It is vital to know that every inverter gives out some wind noise, which is normal. However if the noise is too much from the fan then your fan may need some cleaning. This you can do by using a blowing machine after opening the inverter case or you can contact professionals near you. In some cases, the fan may need to be replaced to solve the issue.

Now that you are aware of the various common inverter problems and their solutions, you can solve the problem yourself at home. However, if the problem is beyond your understanding, then you can contact a professional through us
