Ring Doorbells have become so popular today because they can enhance your home security system in a very interesting way. It is very simple and easy to install, especially if there is no existing doorbell installed on or around your door. Ring provides you with everything you will need right in the box during the installation process. Below are the few simple steps to follow when installing a Ring Doorbell, where there was no existing doorbell.
These guides are for Ring Video Doorbell and Ring Video Doorbell 2, Ring Video Doorbell 3 and 3 Plus. These mounting instructions can be applied to Ring Video Doorbell Pro and Elite; however, you may need a professional electrician near you to hardwire the Ring doorbell to your existing doorbell and internet, if you are not really a technical person.
1. Install a Ring Doorbell Video App.
Before you get started with the installation of the Ring Doorbell device, there is a need to install the Ring app on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. The app is the Central Command platform, where you will have to control the device.
After you have downloaded and installed the Ring Doorbell app that is right for your device, you’ll need to create a new account with Ring. The account creation process is simple and easy. Just tap Create Account when you open the app, and then follow the prompts.
Your personal details, including name, location, and email address will be required. Then create a password after that click on Create Account. Finally, you will receive a confirmation email, and once you confirm
that you, indeed, created the account, you are ready to physically install your Ring device.
If you had already opened an account using Ring app and account, such as one that you set up with a Ring security system, you can just choose Login instead of Create Account and then move down to the information about setting up the device app.
2. Set Up Your New Ring Doorbell App.
Once you have the Ring app installed on your device, you can start the process of setting up your new Ring Doorbell device. Much like setting up an account, the Ring app will move you through adding a new device but if you miss any of the steps, this might help.
Ensure that your Ring Doorbell is fully charged before you begin this process.
i. Open the Ring app and click on Set up a Device.
ii. Select the kind of device you want to set up. In this case it a Doorbells.
iii. You will see a code on the device and on the packaging that came you’re your new device. Scan the code from your new Ring Doorbell.
If you cannot find any code to scan, or if it has been misplaced, you can select the option to set up Without Scanning.
iv. After that, you will need to fill in your street address. This will be for monitoring services if you choose to purchase those. Some cities require you to purchase an alarm-monitoring permit if you plan to buy the Ring monitoring service. Be sure you check, understand, and abide by the requirements for your geographic area.
v. You will need to give your device a name, such as Back Door, Front Door, or something similar. It has a Custom option which enables you to give it your own name, if you prefer.
vi. Then, press and hold the orange button on the back of the Ring Doorbell device.
The light on the front of the device should start spinning white to indicate the Ring device is in Setup mode.
vii. The Ring app should automatically start the setup process. First, by connecting to your new doorbell through your Wi-Fi network in your smart home hub. You may need to leave the Ring app to make activate this connection. In that case, scroll to your Wi-Fi Settings and select the device that starts with Ring- several numbers will likely follow the dash, then go back to the Ring app to continue.
The device you are connecting with will determine where and how to locate your Wi-Fi settings. Usually, it follows a path similar to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi.
viii. Once you are connected to the device, it will prompt you to choose your home network. Find that in Wi-Fi Settings and then enter your Wi-Fi password if required.
ix. The light on your Ring doorbell will start flashing again. When the light flashes blue four times, your device is connected and you are now ready to mount the device.
3. Mount the Bracket and Finish Installing Your Ring Doorbell
Before you install the device bracket, charge the ring doorbell by plugging in the micro USB that came with the device, and wait until the ring on the front the device turn charge your Ring Doorbell battery to be full, using the Micro USB cable that is inside the packet. Plug it into a charging hub and wait until the entire ring on the front turns blue. When it is fully charged you can secure it to the mounting bracket.
The actual process for Ring Doorbell mounting and installation for each model is essentially the same. Below are the basic steps on how to install any Ring Doorbell without an existing doorbell since you can do that yourself without any professional help.
If you plan to install your Ring Doorbell to an existing doorbell outlet, it’s advisable to contact an electrical contractor to complete that process, as live electricity can be dangerous if the proper precautions are not taken it could even result to electric shock.
i. The Ring Doorbell is usually attached to a mounting bracket and it is the mounting bracket that is actually fixed to your wall. The good news is, there are just a few steps to mount the bracket to the wall.
ii. Hold the mounting bracket about chest high in the spot where you want to fix it.
iii. Use the level to make sure it is even and straight.
iv. You may want to drill small holes to get things started or just use plenty of force, before doing that Mark the four screw hole positions on the exterior of your home using a pencil.
v. Position your mounting bracket in place and screw in the four screws. Make them to be tight and firm
vi. Unscrew the two tiny security screws on the bottom of the Ring Doorbell, and fix the device into place on the mounting bracket.
vii. Tighten in the security screws again on the bottom using the included tool.
vii. Press the button on the ring doorbell to start pairing the device with the app on your cell phone or tablet.
Note If you are installing the device on brick, stucco, or concrete, you will have to first drill holes and use the anchors provided in the packet.
Once you connect Ring to your Wi-Fi network (during the set up), you will be able to start using your Ring Doorbell. Make sure to adjust the settings, like the motion sensor range setting, in the device app to meet your needs. It is also possible to pair the doorbell with your Google Home or Amazon Alexa smart home devices for voice control.
